Montessori Floor Bed

The bed’s structure is thoughtfully designed to be sturdy yet inviting. Its low profile ensures safety, minimising the risk of falls, while the open sides encourage independence, allowing children to get in and out with ease. This design promotes a sense of autonomy and confidence in young sleepers, important components of Montessori teaching.

Designed with minimal assembly in mind, only 8 screws are required for the frame. To secure the floor slats, use a screw driver or a drill and simply roll them out before securing with the screws provided.

The sides are 50cm high across all sizes. The dimensions for the bed frames once assembled are:

Single: 196.5cm (L) x 96cm (W) 
King Single: 213cm (L) x 114cm (W)
Double: 196.5cm (L) x 146.5cm (W)
Queen: 213cm (L) x 163.5cm (W)

All floor bed sizes fit standard Australian mattress sizes. 

Rails are 50cm high. We recommend using a mattress no higher than 25cm. Ideally closer to 20cm.

There is a gap of ~2cm to allow for blankets or doonas being tucked in when your kiddo is ready. Also to allow for easier access when changing the sheets.

Safety and comfort are paramount with the Montessori Floor Bed, especially for our little explorers. Recommended for munchkins 18 months and over. Our beds are not cots – they are not designed to keep kids inside like a cot would. The sides are designed to keep the kids from rolling off the bed. Special attention is required in younger kids to prevent toppling over the sides.

Quick tips for a safe, snooze-friendly room:

• Follow all Red Nose Safe Sleeping recommendations.
• Anchor all furniture to avoid wobbles.
• Keep engaging toys out of reach at bedtime.
• Choose short curtains or secure curtain/blind cords for safety.
• Child-proof thoroughly, covering outlets and securing the door.
• Consider a video baby monitor for peace of mind.

Creating a safe haven with the Floor Bed is all about embracing minimalism, allowing the room to become a quiet, relaxing space and a few thoughtful precautions, ensuring sweet dreams and safe adventures for your little one.

Please note that this Montessori Floor Bed does not include a mattress. You are able to use regular Single, King Single, Double, or Queen size mattress and we recommend a maximum height of 20-25cm. Please consider the sides are 50cm high.

Even though the slats provide airflow, by following these care tips, you can keep your Sleepy Monkey floor bed in excellent condition, preventing mould under your mattress and providing a safe and cozy sleeping space for your child. 

• Regular Airing: Lift the mattress against a wall and air it out once a week to allow any trapped moisture to evaporate. I do it when I change the sheets.
• Cleanliness: Keep the area under the bed clean and use a mattress protector to prevent spills and stains from seeping into the mattress.
• Humidity Control: Ensure proper ventilation in the room by opening windows or using a fan or dehumidifier if you live in a more humid climate.
• Dry Environment: Avoid placing the bed directly on damp floors or against damp walls. In case of spills, clean and dry the affected area immediately.
• Slat Maintenance: Ensure the slats are spaced evenly to promote air circulation under the mattress.

We offer a 12 month manufacturers warranty on all our Montessori Beds. If there are any defects, a replacement panel(s) will be sent to you.
